10 Xbox games Microsoft should make backward-compatible on PC

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget how diverse the original Xbox game library really was. Early in its life, a handful of major Japanese publishers released some absolute bangers. Sega was surprisingly prolific, Tecmo truly came into its own, and Microsoft itself worked with skilled partners to develop a variety of hidden gems. Other third parties from around the world made terrific contributions that ensured there was always something new and compelling to play. Soon, it could be easy to revisit this halcyon era — or at least parts of it.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads Is a Bold New Step for a Fighting Game Genre Pioneer | IGN Preview

Very few fighting games are as historically important as Virtua Fighter. Street Fighter, of course, is the genre’s proud papa. But Virtua fighter was the first 3D fighting game. It pushed tech forward in incredible ways, and it’s been a pillar of the genre since. It also doesn’t hurt that the series is populated by some absolutely excellent games that have inspired a devoted community and one of the coolest competitive scenes in the space. But Virtua Fighter’s been absent from the scene for a while. Yeah, we got Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. in 2024 and its World Tour last year, but Virtua Fighter 5 itself is 20 years old. How do you bring the series’ legacy forward while honoring what came before? During Summer Game Fest, I sat down for a presentation and Q&A with producer Riichiro Yamada and head of IP Toshihiro Nakaya to figure out what they thought Virtua Fighter was, and where it was going.

Hideo Kojima sure has been thinking about death a lot lately. Though he's a pretty spritely 62 years old, the Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator has made our pages recently for things like: talking about deciding to make Physint after a brush with death in 2020, making a game where you get old and die, and how he has a USB stick full of ideas that he will one day leave to his staff that is "'kind of like a will".
