Overview

Over a decade since it first hit the streets, the Pacifica remains an icon of the minivan segment that Chrysler invented. The ubiquitous family-hauler hasn’t changed much since its debut, but the Pacifica has finally received a styling refresh for the 2027 model year to keep it somewhat contemporary. With sleek new front and rear ends—but the same middle—the updated Pacifica signals the forward path for Chrysler's design direction. Not much has changed under its skin, however.

Flip open its hood, and you'll find the same trusty 287-hp 3.6-liter V-6 that has become a mainstay of the model. Nothing major has changed inside, either. The Pacifica still retains an expansive interior with either seven or eight seats, a smorgasbord of creature comforts, and Chrysler's signature Stow ‘n Go second- and third-row seats that fold flat into the floor.

Expert Tip: If you're looking for the fuel efficiency that a hybrid minivan can provide, we'd recommend either the Kia Carnival Hybrid or the hybrid-only Toyota Sienna.

What's New for 2027?

The Pacifica received updated front-end styling that is an obvious departure from its previous look. New angular headlights connected by a width-spanning light bar extend vertically down the length of its fascia and bookend a redesigned grille with an illuminated Chrysler badge in the center. The taillights have also been given a similar treatment, and there are eight new wheel designs to choose from. Some minor adjustments have also been made to the Pacifica's interior trim to give its cabin a more premium feel.

C/D Expert Tip:

If this year's model is largely unchanged and you're comfortable with a lightly used car, you may want to consider shopping previous model years. A one-to-three-year-old model will likely have a warranty and it'll cost less than buying new.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Available exclusively as a gas-only model, the Pacifica packs a 287-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and a nine-speed automatic transmission under its hood. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but all-wheel drive is available for an additional $3345. There used to be a plug-in hybrid variant of the Pacifica, but Stellantis recently axed all of its plug-in models, sending the Pacifica Hybrid to the electrical boneyard. When we drove the 2027 Pacifica, we found its ride quality to be pleasant and its steering to be trusty and linear.

In Comparison: It's not the quickest minivan we've tested, but the front-wheel-drive Pacifica is far from sluggish. The front-wheel-drive model is about mid-pack in terms of performance, while the all-wheel-drive version is a bit pokier.

The EPA rates the Pacifica at 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The AWD version is rated a few mpg lower all around. The front-wheel-drive Pacifica Limited we tested last delivered an impressive 31 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, while the AWD model recorded 27 mpg in the same test. While the Pacifica's fuel economy is competitive, the competition from Kia and Toyota includes hybrids that are much more fuel efficient.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: Airy, spacious, and packed with cubbies, cupholders, and underfloor bins, the Pacifica is big on the features that minivan buyers love. Fit, finish, and materials are all decent, but a few down-market plastic pieces lurk inside the cabin. Upscale Limited and Pinnacle models come with taller center consoles that blend more seamlessly with the dashboard, giving those trims a more SUV-like feel from behind the wheel.

The fancy Pinnacle model comes with quilted-leather upholstery and even offers matching lumbar throw pillows for the second-row captain's chairs—a feature we haven't seen since the last time the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S-class visited our office.

Second Row: The Pacifica's second row comes standard with captain's chairs, but a second-row bench seat can also be optioned. Because the Stow 'n Go seats need to be compact enough to fold into the van's floor, they have thinner padding than you’ll find in rival vans.

Third Row: The Pacifica's third row is spacious enough to be comfortable for adults.

Cargo Capacity: When it comes to hauling cargo, the Pacifica doesn't disappoint. We managed to fit 53 of our carry-on suitcases inside with the second- and third-row seats stowed.

Infotainment and Connectivity

• Audio System: six-speaker audio system (standard), 19-speaker Harman/Kardon Premium audio system (optional)

Chrysler's Uconnect 5 infotainment system displays on a glossy 10.1-inch touchscreen that's framed by climate-control vents on the van's dashboard. Uconnect 5 offers a reconfigurable home screen and Amazon Alexa integration. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An optional rear-seat entertainment system provides dual touchscreens to keep the kids placated and can be had with Amazon Fire TV, which provides access to movies and TV via embedded streaming apps. Up to 12 USB ports dot the Pacifica's cabin, including some that are the USB-C type, which offer quicker charging speeds for smart devices.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Pacifica offers nearly every conceivable driver-assistance feature available today.
