How to raise Coen's infamy and anger Brencis's vassals

The court system in The Blood of Dawnwalker is key to your progression. Regular questing may lead to new allies and better gear, but you can also sabotage Brencis' court, mess with his boyars, and raise Coen's notoriety among the rebels. Infamy opens new pathways to defeating Brencis, but as always, it comes at a price.

Here's how to raise Coen's infamy and anger Brencis' vassals in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

How to raise anger levels in The Blood of Dawnwalker

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, your progression is linked to the court system. Following the prologue, you can find the "Court" tab in the main menu, next to the map. Here you will find your current infamy status as well as the anger levels of Brencis' vassals: Ambrus, Xanthe, and Bakir.

To anger a vassal, you must complete sabotage missions. They're represented by the small diamonds linked to the vassal's portrait in the court menu. Initially, as you must discover sabotage opportunities first, you will see nothing but question marks. Don't worry; you'll soon discover plenty of sabotage opportunities simply by exploring the map and completing quests.

Once a vassal's anger level is full, it unlocks a quest related to that vassal, allowing you to learn more of their backstory. However, if you kill a vassal before maxing their anger level, you won't get the quest! So, should you run into one of Brencis' cronies in the early game (which is possible), you might want to spare them... for now.

Beware that it may take a while to start a boyar's quest after reaching the maximum anger level. The quest won't just pop up in your journal, but don't worry; the angry Vrakhir will find a way to contact Coen.

How infamy works in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Angering Brencis' vassals also raises Coen's infamy level. Upon reaching a new infamy level, Brencis will issue edicts to make your life harder, such as "additional patrols in settlements" or "military checkpoints appear throughout the valley." Becoming very infamous very early in the game can therefore be unwise; you might want to take it slow and do some "regular" quests between sabotage missions.

That said, reaching the "notorious" infamy level allows you to join the Manumits, aka the anti-Vrakhir rebellion. Brencis will become more aggressive toward you, but you will also gain new means to oppose him.

How best to use the court system in The Blood of Dawnwalker

As you play around with The Blood of Dawnwalker's court system, here are a few things you should keep in mind:

• Some "regular" quests will also raise anger levels and infamy if the outcome affects Brencis or his vassals. It's much faster to sabotage them directly, though.
• You don't need to complete every sabotage mission to reach a court member's maximum anger level and start their quest. With that in mind, it's probably more fun to pick different kinds of missions. In Ambrus' case, for example, you might want to sabotage a leech collector camp, intercept a blood transport, and clear a blood cellar rather than clear three blood cellars in a row.
• Focus on one court member at a time. Although you're free to sabotage Ambrus, Xanthe, and Bakir simultaneously, if you'd like to start one of their personal quests as soon as possible, you should focus on your Vrakhir of choice.
• Angering Ambrus is easiest. If you open the map and hover over the region names, you'll find which court member controls that region. On top of that, you'll see a yellow, orange, or red skull next to the region's name if the region is considered comparatively difficult for your current level (red being the most dangerous). Since Ambrus controls the least dangerous regions, such as Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds, sabotaging him is a bit easier than sabotaging Xanthe or Bakir.
• You don't have to sabotage Brencis' vassals. Hereby a friendly reminder that bothering Vrakhiri is entirely optional in The Blood of Dawnwalker, so you don't have to complete sabotaging objectives if you don't want to. On the plus side, angering vassals leads to more quests, but on the downside, defeating vassals leads to an angry Brencis (and a more difficult game), so keep that trade-off in mind.
