It’s not often that I feel compelled to keep playing a game after I’ve finished it, but Splatoon Raiders is a big exception. Nintendo’s new looter shooter got its hooks into me during my playtime, and I have yet to pull them out. I’ve spent well over 30 hours tinkering with my loadout and trying to push my Inkling’s power levels as far as I can. I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon, either.

One excellent, unforgettable expansion has fixed Doom: The Dark Ages

I liked Doom: The Dark Ages when it arrived last year, but I really ought to have loved it. The first two Dooms of id's modern trilogy are generationally great FPS campaigns with unmatched action, memorable guns, and late-game fights that will grind your teeth down to the gums. They successfully reestablished Doom around speed, hyper mobility, and improvisational gun swapping—ideas that id actively turned away from when it designed The Dark Ages around a shield.

10 Xbox games Microsoft should make backward-compatible on PC

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget how diverse the original Xbox game library really was. Early in its life, a handful of major Japanese publishers released some absolute bangers. Sega was surprisingly prolific, Tecmo truly came into its own, and Microsoft itself worked with skilled partners to develop a variety of hidden gems. Other third parties from around the world made terrific contributions that ensured there was always something new and compelling to play. Soon, it could be easy to revisit this halcyon era — or at least parts of it.

Perhaps predictably, Creative Assembly's Total War: Warhammer 40,000 could be quite the step change for how Total War handles ranged combat. Yesterday, the developers livestreamed a battle between the Imperium and the Orks, while chatting enthusiastically about the nuances of drop pods and flamers and evasion stats.
