KTC 25M1 review

KTC has managed to deliver an outstanding monitor for competitive shooters here at a very reasonable price. It's not the best for casual gaming, but if games like Counter-Strike or Valorant are your go-to, you'll struggle to hit this sweet spot refresh rate in a nice panel for a better price.

Id Software co-founder John Carmack "can’t muster anger or outrage" over Xbox gutting the Doom studio, but does say it'll "dampen the mood of the founder reunion"

"You can’t rule out the possibility that executives are idiots, but that shouldn’t be your default belief"

Aw shucks. That's a bummer. I'm not angry about it, though. Surely this had to happen, just like the execs said it did. I'm paraphrasing quite facetiously, but that is the basic gist of id Software co-founder John Carmack's reaction to the studio cutting 136 workers as part of Microsoft's mass layoffs earlier this week, a devastating blow that leaves the Doom developers facing an uncertain future.

Xbox's 'reset' layoffs have hit Bethesda hard, with long-term institutional talent shown the door—Zenimax Online Studios, which is part of the same studio family as Bethesda and works on the Elder Scrolls Online, was also particularly dismantled by Xbox, with over 60% of its staff laid off in the past year.

We've known for some time now that AMD was planning on launching next-gen Zen 6 CPUs in 2026, but hardware has been in a weird place for a while, so it's best not to assume something will be going into your rig / server until it's in your hands. And yet AMD has confirmed it will begin rolling out the next generation on the 22nd and 23rd of this month, starting with server-focused EPYC processors.

In 1984, an upstart retail company called Costco had just opened its first handful of voluminous warehouse stores on the west coast of the United States when it decided to try an experiment. It installed a hot dog cart in front of its San Diego store and started selling Hebrew Nationals with a drink for $1.50. People, it turned out, liked the hot dogs. The cart became Cafe 150, named for the combo price.

Obsidian has a superpower any publisher would kill to have right now

Pillars of Eternity - battle with army and octopus Image: Obsidian Entertainment

This week, Xbox announced a sweeping overhaul of its business that will see the company cutting 3,200 total jobs by next summer. That decision has already led to catastrophic results for studios under Xbox that have reportedly been gutted, including Doom developer Id Software. Obsidian Entertainment especially took a hit as part of the first layoff wave, losing 25% of its staff amid a major shake-up in the studio’s direction. According to a Bloomberg report, the remaining team has been tasked with making a new Fallout game as Xbox tightens its focus on its biggest IP. As a result, that directive reportedly means the team will be pushing aside some projects it was working on, including a sequel to 2025’s Avowed.
